Hey! Your little girl is adorable. I love this picture!! How sweet!!
Let's see ... I can't tell you for sure how much solid food vs. milk Rylie should be having (maybe ask your pediatrician). I weaned Caleb to formula last month, so he takes 6-7 ounces of formula 4 times a day, and three of those feedings are followed by solid food (breakfast, lunch, dinner). I have a friend who wanted to wean her daughter straight to milk from breast milk, but she just wasn't old enough yet, so she had to use a little formula before her daughter turned one. If you're absolutely against formula, ask your pediatrician if your daughter is old enough for real cow's milk. If not ... I would just say to be careful, since at this stage, most of their nutrition still comes from breast milk/formula, so you don't want to be stingy! But, you never know!! I'd ask my doctor!
I personally think that any meat that has been sitting in a jar on the shelf is kind of frightening, so Caleb has never had meat in a jar (I agree with you--ew, the smell!). So, I either use whatever meat we're eating that night and shred it finely for him to eat with his fingers, or I use grilled chicken strips (you can find them in your refrigerated deli meat section) and cut them up into tiny pieces, if the meat we are eating is too spicy for the little guy. My method is to start with a jar of baby food veggies or fruit and then follow that with tiny cubes of either cheese or meat for protein. Caleb is still toothless, so I have to be sure he can gum whatever I give him!
Wow--this is the longest comment ever!! I hope this helped ... good luck! It's really a bunch of trial and error. :) You'll do great. Let me know how it goes!
Oh yes, I understand wanting to reach your goal! My goal was to breast feed for six months, just because I knew once summer hit that our lives would be crazy, and Caleb would turn six months in the spring. I ended up breast feeding him until he was seven months old and then I started to taper off feedings ... and my milk totally dried up! I was so bummed! So I had to wean him altogether. I had met my goal, which was awesome, but I was still sad that it ended so quickly! When he was born, we had to supplement with formula his first week of life, so I got over my formula complex pretty quickly. But I completely totally understand what you mean about not wanting to supplement. Especially when you are so close to being done!!
I love reading what other Moms do, too. It gives me ideas and inspiration and really, makes me feel better all around!
If you do decide to supplement with formula, Caleb has taken a liking to Enfamil Lipil Next Step, which is formulated for babies 9-24 months. If you want to save money, you can buy the Target brand. I checked and it has exactly the same ingredients and it's waaaaay cheaper! I usually alternate between the real stuff and the generic, just because I'm kind of a brand snob, I guess! But the Target stuff really is good.
